This is my most favorite possession. I absolutely love the memories it has captured over the years.
From babies being born, to broken bones, lost parents, aunts and pets. This table cloth chronicles the highlights of the year and the stages of growth , love and sometimes loss our family has sustained in that year.
It is so much fun to look back and see who graced our Thanksgiving table over the years. From my husbands, quirky comments of “Had some turkey…had some ham…Holy Sh#t…. is was better than spam” to a messages of thanks from my best friend for the dinner we shared with them. My brother’s Arctic turkey and my mom’s mention of how good the wine was. Cheers for our favorite sports teams and beautiful art from my niece and cousin.
I made this tablecloth in 2004. At the time we had two boys and one on the way. We have not missed a year since we started and I am so thankful that I took the time to make it. It was super simple and cost less than $15.
To make you own table cloth, simply visit the fabric section of your favorite store and choose a color that you love. I chose the gingham because I loved the fall colors and liked that it was easy to wash and write on. Measure your table and get enough fabric to cover with about 6-8″ draping over the sides (extra room for writing) I simply hemmed the edges with a straight stitch and placed on the table.
Each year before I wash it, I take time to go over the messages that have begun to fade to make sure we hang on to those heart felt messages.
I’d love to hear if you make your own and see what colors you chose, I promise it will become one of your favorite things too.
